Dick Cheney has become
increasingly nasty in the last five years since becoming
Vice President of the United States of America. His
latest crusade, promoting the legalization of torture,
has brought a greater shame on this nation than any
other Vice President could possibly do. Cheney wants
the torture allowed so badly that this summer he threatened
to veto the Senate's defense spending bill if it contained
the McCain Amendment prohibiting the use of cruel, inhuman
and degrading treatment by any US personnel. The Senate
passed the amendment anyway by a vote of 90 to 9. According
to the Washington Post:
VICE PRESIDENT Cheney is aggressively
pursuing an initiative that may be unprecedented for
an elected official of the executive branch: He is
proposing that Congress legally authorize human rights
abuses by Americans. "Cruel, inhuman and degrading"
treatment of prisoners is banned by an international
treaty negotiated by the Reagan administration and
ratified by the United States. The State Department
annually issues a report criticizing other governments
for violating it. Now Mr. Cheney is asking Congress
to approve legal language that would allow the CIA
to commit such abuses against foreign prisoners it
is holding abroad. In other words, this vice president
has become an open advocate of torture.
Aside from the latest Torture
push, Akaoni on the Blog really spells out a good case
in this post called "It's
all about Dick!" In it he focuses on two main
issues:
1. the accusations of former
State Department Chief of Staff Col. Lawrence Wilkerson
"What I saw was a cabal between the vice president
of the United States, Richard Cheney, and the secretary
of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld on critical issues that
made decisions that the bureaucracy did not know were
being made."
2. Cheney's role in the
Plame Game, "I. Lewis Libby Jr., Vice President
Dick Cheney's chief of staff, first learned about the
C.I.A. officer at the heart of the leak investigation
in a conversation with Mr. Cheney weeks before her identity
became public in 2003, lawyers involved in the case
said Monday."
VPOTUS Dick Cheney,
you have been overdue for the honor of Babblemur's November
2005 ASSHAT OF THE MONTH!
Who do you think should be Babblemur's...
ASSHAT of the Month!?
Who do you think is really drinking
from the toilet bowl these days? Whose got their head
so far up their ass that they are wearing it for a hat?
Who would you like to nominate for Babblemur's Asshat
of the Month Award? See some opinions posted below.
Keep in mind that voting is relative
and results subject to the approval of the Babblemur
Secretary of State, i.e. me, kind of like in Ohio or
Florida! I'll post updates if I feel like it, and I'll
post the monthly winner when Dybold/Accenture sends
me the 'approved' results.

Meet our October Asshat of
the Month...
Iowa's Steve King!
"I think that if Barbara
Lee would read the history of Joe McCarthy, she would realize
that he was a hero for America." -Steve King to California
Representative Barbara Lee.
"So far, over 80 formerly
frozen embryos have been adopted by families. Now these snowflake
babies are giggling, screaming, playful children. It
is a glorious miracle for couples who imagined they would
never experience parenthood, much less pregnancy and childbirth.
These snowflakes some of whom were frozen for
nine years, are as worthy of our protection as every child.
Their parents do not think they are medical waste." (Sound
Science and Sound Ethics - Steve King)
Steve King represents Iowa's
5th Congressional District, i.e. Western Iowa. He has proven
himself to be such a first class Asshat that even the Des
Moines Register has retracted it's endorsement of him 12 months
after the fact with this editorial "Spare
us more embarassment: Replace King". Akaoni laid
down the case here
and here,
but let me bullet them out:
He recently led a crusade to prevent a
post office in California from being named after Maudelle
Shirek, a 94-year-old granddaughter of slaves who has been
a crusader for civil rights, the poor, senior nutrition,
affordable housing, and various antiwar movements and social
causes. He forced a partisan line vote against the post
office name based on her prior 'communist' associations.
King was one of 11 Congressmen who voted
against aid for helping victims and rebuilding in the wake
of Hurricane Katrina.
He did this while continuing to advocate
for tax cuts for the rich, and a hyper-regressive national
sales tax to replace national income taxes.
King shamefully downplayed torture in Abu
Ghraib comparing it to "hazing."
He has been a tireless crusader for "immigration
reform" pushing official English language legislation
and a razor wire fence on the southern border.
King also placed himself squarely in the
middle in the Schaivo controversy, trying to legislate his
way past the courts to continue life support for the brain-dead
woman."
He was instrumental in making Iowa an "English
Language Only" state.
He is leading the cause to amend the US
Constitution to ban gay marriage and flag burning.
Ironically, the Family Research Council just
named Steve King a "True Blue" Member of Congress
this month. I should just copy their announcement:
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Congressman
Steve King today was named a "True Blue" Member
of Congress by the Family Research Council (FRC) for his commitment
to American families.
King won the award for extraordinary leadership
and commitment to the defense of family, faith, and freedom,
according to FRC's new scorecard covering House votes during
the first session of the 109th Congress. Recipients of the
award voted consistently for pro-life and pro-family issues.
This year, King has voted to:
Prohibit American flag desecration,
Protect private property rights from eminent
domain abuse,
Protect the display of the 10 Commandments,
Permanently repeal the Death Tax,
Prevent children from being taken across
state lines to get abortions without their parents' knowledge,
Prevent the starvation and dehydration
of Terri Schiavo,
Prevent taxpayer funds from being used
to kill human embryos in the name of unsuccessful scientific
research, and
Make the United Nations more accountable
for the funding it receives from the U.S.
CONGRATULATIONS, MR. KING, you are our OCTOBER ASSHAT OF THE
MONTH!
Meet our September Asshat of
the Month...
F. James Sensenbrenner!
Wisconsin's own F. James Sensenbrenner, the
indefeatable Republican in the House of Representatives, is
"always doing something worthy of being Asshat of the
Month." Sensenbrenner who voted against the federal aid
package for Hurricane Katrina recovery. Sensenbrenner who
couldn't stand a Judiciary hearing that described torture
by Americans so he gaveled it closed and turned off the lights
while the witnesses continued to testify. Sensenbrenner who
will make it more difficult to get a driver's liscence due
to his REAL ID Act, but then turns around and requires an
ID to vote. Sensenbrenner who rewrote Democratic amendments
to a bill to read in the official record that each one was
meant to protect sex-offenders. That bankruptsy bill? His.
PATRIOT ACT? His. Sensenbrenner the real Son of Satan, is
our Asshat of the Month.
According to Rolling Stone, "Sensenbrenner
is your basic Fat Evil Prick, perfectly cast as a dictatorial
committee chairman: He has the requisite moist-with-sweat
pink neck, the dour expression, the penchant for pointless
bile and vengefullness."
According to his 2004 Democratic apponent Bryan
Kennedy: An American city the size of Milwaukee is in
ruins, its residents are scattered all over the country in
temporary shelters, and Sensenbrenner doesnt believe
that they should receive assistance. I dont think that
Sensenbrenner is heartless, so I really cant understand
why he would vote against helping his fellow Americans through
one of the greatest natural disasters in our nations
history.
Meet our August Asshat of the Month...Pat
Robertson!
On his religious program "the 700 Club",
Pat Robertson called for the death of (Twice Democratically
Elected) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific
danger" to the United States.
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine
of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate
him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it,"
Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting
a war...and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
"We have the ability to take him out,
and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability,"
Robertson said. "We don't need another $200 billion war
to get ride of one, you know, strong-arm dicator," he
continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the
covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
Asshat Testimonials
Personally, I feel that 'Dr.' James Dobson
should be voted the Asshat of the month. He is the front man
of the organization "Focus on the Family" which,
in addition to pandering to the conservative Christian churches,
also contributes to the hate and typification of homosexual
men. The organization has a webpage titled, "Helping
Boys Become Men, and Girls Become Women" which is subtitled;
"Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?" which lists different
stereotypes that a parent may notice in their young son to
clue them in that he's an eight year old queer. Some of these
signs include: crying easily, less athleticism than other
boys, thinking effeminately, and "A susceptibility to
be bullied by other boys, who may tease them unmercifully
and call them queer, fag and gay.
While these suggestions are horrible in and of themselves,
the website, which is http://www.focusonyourchild.com/develop/art1/A0000684.html
offers reparative therapy for these young children who show
signs of homosexuality. Not to worry if your child has already
reached puberty and has acted on this vile sin, the website
offers suggestions on what to do with a homosexual child after
he or she has reached puberty.
On the Focus on the Family website, Dr. James
Dobson is quoted as saying, There is also the vigorous
effort by gays to infiltrate the Boy Scouts in the same way
lesbians have done so successfully in the Girl Scouts, where
33 percent of their staff is said to be lesbian. as
proof that homosexuals are on a vigorous 'campaign' against
children. In addition to the campaign of homosexuals in the
Scout Organizations, homosexuals also tried working their
way into schools earlier this year with SpongeBob SquarePants.
However, Focus on the Family called the queers out on their
attempt to promote their agenda and admitted the truth on
SpongeBob. For more reading see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4190699.stm
For these reasons, I feel that James Dobson
should be voted Asshat of the month. For all the things he
has done in his lengthy career to continue hate and discrimination
in our country, he surely deserves this honor. - Micheal Trotter
"Even though the Congress is not in session
I'm going to nominate perpetual ASSHAT Jim Sensenbrenner.
I'm sure he's doing something, somewhere to be worthy of ASSHAT
of the Month Status." -Akaoni
"Bill
O'Reilly of Fox News deserves to be asshat of the month. His
comments regarding peace-mom Cindy Sheehan have been deplorable.
First he suggested that her behavior in protesting agaist president
Bush is treasonous:
"I think Mrs. Sheehan bears some responsibility
for this [publicity] and also for the responsibility for
the other American families who lost sons and daughters
in Iraq who feel this kind of behavior borders on treasonous."
"Then he participated in the attempts
to "swift boat" Ms. Sheehan by passing on the story
that she somehow flip-flopped on her position regarding Bush
and the war. What kind of a moral cretin would try to swift
boat a grieving mother?
"More recently O'Reilly has been claiming
that Sheehan is under the control of "ideologues"
like Michael Moore. That Sheehan blogs on Mr. Moore's website
is, for O'Reilly, somehow scandalous.
"Bill O'Reilly is very well deserving
of the asshat of the month award. "
