I just watched the trailer from a movie that an
old friend Usama is currently making, entitled
Nice Bombs. It's the story of his return to Iraq
in the wake of the war. I'm very excited to see
the film and his personal perspective of the
war in Iraq and it's impact on his relatives.

Here's how Usama describes it:

In January of 2004, compelled to
find my place in current conflicts, I
made a journey with my wife and
father to the place of my birth -
Baghdad, Iraq. I shot over forty-seven
hours of footage, documenting my trip
    internally and externally, as both
diarist and observer. This film explores
the notion of identity and the
repercussions created by my dual role
as Iraqi and American. The finished
work will be an examination of my
place in Iraq after being away for over
24 years, as well as a broad panorama
of the voices, gestures and faces of my
Iraqi family and friends who have had
no voice under Saddam's regime for the
last 30 years. It is a discovery for both
myself and for those who only now
have begun to experiment with their
    freedom of speech and expression.
    Especially striking were Iraqis'
    acceptance, optimism, and
    nonchalance, encapsulated in a phrase
used by my cousin - "Nice bombs."

Check out the trailer on the Nice
    Bombs site.

Join Our Fearless Great Dear Leader
by Akaoni

Comrades, the time has come to join our great
leader in foiling the French and the liberal
masses everywhere. We must stand tall behind
our Fearless Great Dear Leader: Bush the
Younger.

The forces of righteousness will not be stopped.
To this end,
The General Has founded the
Great Conservative Christian Cultural
Revolution. With his help we will throw down
those disloyal, traitorous, counterrevolutionary
liberals, and institute a state ruled by God's
chosen one: The Fearless Great Dear Leader.
Those who are not with us are against us!
In an attempt to make
Babblemur! welcoming
and inclusive, the

Operation Yellow Elephant

I don't know if anyone has been following Jesus'
General's Operation Yellow Elephant, but it's
pretty funny. The General exorts young college
Repuplicans to do their part for the country and
enlist in the armed forces.

Hilarity ensues.
Torture Ships

According to Agence France-Presse the US has been holding
terrorism suspects abord ships in order to avoid the reach of
US or international law.

VIENNA (AFP) - The UN has learned of "very, very
serious" allegations that the United States is secretly
detaining terrorism suspects in various locations around
the world, notably aboard prison ships, the UN's special
    rapporteur on terrorism said.

    [...]

The use of prison ships would allow investigators to
interrogate people secretly and in international waters
out of the reach of US law, British security expert
    Francis Tusa said.

"This opens the door to very tough interrogations on
key prisoners before it even has been revealed that they
have been captured," said Tusa, an editor for the
    British magazine Jane's Intelligence Review.

But I'm sure Duncan Hunter will clear this up with a
detailed menu, itinerary of the fabulous destinations
they've visited, perhaps even photos of the weekly
shuffleboard tourney. Maybe they are being held by
Carnival Cruise Lines: "The Fun Ships."

Spain Joins the Club

According to this article from the AP, Spain
has joined Belgium, The Netherlands, and
Canada in legalizing gay marriage. To me this
is suprising, seeing as Spain is a largely
Catholic country. As to the United States, lets
see...no gay marriage, no universial health
care, torture of detainees...yes, we truly are
the greatest nation on the face of the Earth.
God Bless America!

Update: In reference to this and a previous
post, only Canada's House of Commons has
passed the bill legalizing gay marriage,
Canada's Senate is expected to pass the bill in
July.
Reason and decency in the Great
White North

Well our friends in Canada have joined Belgium
and The Netherlands as only the third country to
formally legalize gay marriage. Once again
Canada has trumped the U.S. as the country of
reason here in North America. Good for them!

It’s sad that our country continues to indulge in
the kind of hateful bigotry we see in anti-gay
rhetoric so prevelant in the current discourse.

Here’s the story from the CBC

Update:

I see from babblemur.com that the term anti-gay
is now to be avoided. Sorry, I'll refrain from
using the term in the future. I will now refer to
anti-gay bigoted zelots as: asshats.

Update:

Looks like asshat is off limits as well...damn!
