Pat Robertson - Babblemur's Asshat of the Month!

The contest was a close one, but when the master of the "Taking a Big Grumpy Face" called for the assassination of Hugo Chavez, he put himself over the top. Welcome to the Asshat Hall of Shame, Pat!

Pat Robertson calls for Death of Chavez

On his religious program "the 700 Club", Pat Robertson called for the death of (Twice Democratically Elected) Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific danger" to the United States.

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war...and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said. "We don't need another $200 billion war to get ride of one, you know, strong-arm dicator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Pat Robertson has demonstrated that the Culture of Death is no stranger to his brand of Fundamentalist Christianity, which appears willing to resort to murder and violence in order to prevent populism and public will from threatening a small cabal of religious zealots. While President Bush attempts to assure us that the War on Iraq is not a "religious war" against Islam, cohorts such as Pat Robertson betray that lie.

Robertson said it was the United States' duty to stop Chavez from making Venezuela a "launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism." Here Robertson deftly blends the old school "Red Scare" with the New Boogeyman "Muslim extremism." What this is really about is a battle between the "Haves" (Pat Robertson, the United States Elite, the former Venezuelan Elite, and the white colonists of South America) vs. the "Have Nots" (indiginous people, dark skinned people and the poor of South America and to a degree North America). This is not communism, this is not islam. This is about sharing the wealth of a nation with the people of that nation instead of treating 80% of the population as slaves. When that 80% gets to speak up, even in the form of the ballot box, at least in Venezuela their votes counted, and they got exactly what they wanted.

South America is witnessing a populist revolution, in Venezuela, in Brazil, in Argentina, in Bolivia, where the people are beginning to demand a little tiny bit of all that wealth that is being raped from their land and sent to "the West". Chavez is criticized for giving to the poor! They claim he is "pandering" to the poor for votes! Did Jesus Christ "pander" to the poor?

Pat Robertson needs a little taste of Jesus, I think.

Ohio Election 2004

The 2004 election fiasco in Ohio, so aptly described in the Conyers Report, continues to be investigated. Green Party candidate David Cobb and Libertarian Michael Badnarik in filed a law suit in December of 2004 forcing a recount. Following that, Toledo Lawyer Richard Kerger charged that the Cuyahoga County Elections Board broke the law because:

  • It failed to randomly select the 36 precincts used to represent at least 3 percent of the total vote for the December recount.
  • It conducted "test-run" recounts without witnesses.
  • It did not allow witnesses to observe irregularities in the review of cases where the presiding judge transported ballot assemblies, ballots and other items.
  • It repeatedly fed trays of ballots back through the counting machines without keeping records of the counts.
  • It failed to investigate discrepancies between the certified recount vote totals and the certified original totals.

Now a Special Prosecutor has issued subpoenas to up to 10 employees of the Board of Elections to testify before a Grand Jury on Tuesday (August, 23).

Although it is very unlikely that the result of the 2004 election in Ohio will change, the fall out from the Republican electoral hyjinks in Ohio should continue, and the truth should come out and justice should be done. It is one thing to intentionally obstruct voter's rights to vote, and another thing to intentionally obstruct justice by hiding and/or destroying evidence. I hope that the people pursuing the investigation into the Truth of what happened in Ohio stay strong and take this to the very end. Our faith in the electoral process has been weakened by the actions of those in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. We must restore our faith in the ballot box.

Wisconsin Democrats vie for Green Votes

In a clear message that he fears his past erosion of environmental protections in Wisconsin might hurt him in next year's election, Democratic Governor Doyle rolls out a new "Conservation Agenda" in an attempt to appeal to those who elected him to office three years ago.

Meanwhile, Russ Feingold easily leaps over the incredibly low bar that Democrats have set in regards to the War on Iraq by calling for an actual deadline for troop withdrawal.

The Wisconsin Green Party, stunned by the sudden moves by Wisconsin Democrats, remained largely silent. One Green was overheard saying: "Dude, maybe if they keep saying it we'll belive them this time." Democratic Senator Kohl, War Supporter who feels secure in his seat, declined to pander to Greens until a Republican announces a serious challenge.

Asshat Contest Continues : emotional appeal for 'Dr' James Dobson (Vote Now!)

One comment sent in this weekend:

"Personally, I feel that 'Dr.' James Dobson should be voted the Asshat of the month. He is the front man of the organization "Focus on the Family" which, in addition to pandering to the conservative Christian churches, also contributes to the hate and typification of homosexual men. The organization has a webpage titled, "Helping Boys Become Men, and Girls Become Women" which is subtitled; "Is My Child Becoming Homosexual?" which lists different stereotypes that a parent may notice in their young son to clue them in that he's an eight year old queer. Some of these signs include: crying easily, less athleticism than other boys, thinking effeminately, and "A susceptibility to be bullied by other boys, who may tease them unmercifully and call them “queer,” “fag” and “gay.” While these suggestions are horrible in and of themselves, the website, which is http://www.focusonyourchild.com/develop/art1/A0000684.html offers reparative therapy for these young children who show signs of homosexuality. Not to worry if your child has already reached puberty and has acted on this vile sin, the website offers suggestions on what to do with a homosexual child after he or she has reached puberty.

"On the Focus on the Family website, Dr. James Dobson is quoted as saying, “There is also the vigorous effort by gays to infiltrate the Boy Scouts in the same way lesbians have done so successfully in the Girl Scouts, where 33 percent of their staff is said to be lesbian.” as proof that homosexuals are on a vigorous 'campaign' against children. In addition to the campaign of homosexuals in the Scout Organizations, homosexuals also tried working their way into schools earlier this year with SpongeBob SquarePants. However, Focus on the Family called the queers out on their attempt to promote their agenda and admitted the truth on SpongeBob. For more reading see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4190699.stm

"For these reasons, I feel that James Dobson should be voted Asshat of the month. For all the things he has done in his lengthy career to continue hate and discrimination in our country, he surely deserves this honor." - Micheal Trotter

Time for a Women's Rural Progressive Caucus (Meagan Yost, Fightingbob.com)

· Let's talk about health care: single payer, birth to grave, every child, woman and man. Yes. Let's stop rationing health care. Let's secure it for everyone.

· Let's talk about publicly funded political and judiciary campaigns. If we have a constitutional right to free speech then why can corporations buy so much more speech than we ordinary citizens?

· Let's talk about strong election and ethics oversight so our elections are fair and our politicians are held to a high standard that inspires confidence and respect for the office and the office holder.

· Let's talk about clean air, pure water and beautiful landscapes. Let's delineate what these things mean to us and to the future of our state.

· Let's talk about education and prisons and living wages for workers and daycare for children and eldercare for adults and…

Santorum’s People Toss Young Women out of Barnes & Noble, Trooper Threatens Them with Prison

Shaffer, her friends, and two other young women were booted out of the store and threatened with imprisonment even before they had a chance to say a word to Santorum, as Al Mascitti first noted in the Delaware News Journal.
