Babblemur website sits idle
for over a week, masses angry
The website Babblemur!
has been idle for over a week, due to the fact
that I have been extremely busy this month working
on Earth Charter (Oct. 1-8), "With OUT a
doubt Week" (Oct. 10-15), and the petition
drive to put the Iraq War referendum question
on the Oshkosh ballot. I have also been working
on redesigning the Lake
Winnebago Green Party Website, which I
encourage you to check out. And if you live in
the Oshkosh Area and have Cable TV, I am a guest
along with Tina Haffeman on Eye on Oshkosh this
week talking with Cheryl Hentz and Paul Esslinger
about the petition drive, the War Referendum,
and the Iraq War in general. I haven't seen it
yet, because I don't have cable, but as a disclaimer
and excuse for poor performance I had a pneumonia
when we did the taping so I was on some wonderful
cough syrup and was drinking water the entire
time to keep myself from a coughing fit.
The Blog
has been updated at least daily, and I'm still
looking for the October Asshat
of the Month... So "slow down",
take it easy, help us get a few hundred signatures
and Babblemur will be updated again shortly.

Oshkosh War
Referendum in Overdrive
Have you signed the petition
yet?
In tandum with communities across
Wisconsin, Oshkosh is working hard to get 3,000
signatures to put a non-binding referendum on
the April 2006 ballot on the Iraq War. The question
reads:
Should the United States
begin an immediate withdrawal of troops from
Iraq, beginning with the National Guard and
Reserves?
The initial deadline for the petition
drive is October 28, and we have a long way to
go. Anyone who wants to help with the petition
drive should show up at the Winnebago Peace and
Justice Center (321 Market St.) next Saturday
at 1 PM.
If you want to sign the petition
and haven't done so, following is a list of people
you can contact or places you can go:
- Michaels' Salon, S. Oregon
St.
- Jenni Ryan, University Credit
Union, Reeve Union on the UW Oshkosh Campus
- Bob Poechl, WPJC
- Ron Hardy, Polk Library, UW
Oshkosh Campus
- Tony Palmeri, UW Oshkosh
Or contact Ron Hardy (920) 230-3741
(ronaldkanehardy @ babblemur.com) for more information.

Oshkosh Peace Rally
this Friday
Opera Peace Park,
5 PM, October 7
Speakers, Music,
positive protest
|
Children's Crusade
The Northwestern
ran a piece in the Oct. 5 newspaper
reporting that the mother of a Wisconsin
soldier who died in Iraq was pulling out
from speaking at the Oshkosh Peace Rally
this Friday because of rumors - rumors regarding
a street march without a permit following
the peace rally. "I said if there is
even a smidgeon of negativity, I'm not involved,"
Bosveld said.
The Winnebago Peace and
Justice Center has been holding peace rallies
for three years, none that I know of carried
any negativity. There is an entrenched minority
in Oshkosh that wants to sideline, belittle
and defuse any public displays of dissatisfaction
with the Bush administration, and this is
no exception. I have the utmost respect
for Ms. Bosveld, her decision to speak or
not to speak must be difficult, and we must
respect it. I intend to bring my daughter
to the rally on Friday, and to be honest
I wasn't looking forward to the tears that
I'm sure I would have shed listening to
someone speak about loosing their own daughter,
for I can't imagine it and nor do I want
to.
For those of you with children,
I know that we share a constant state of
concern and worry about our children's lives.
This war in Iraq is not only taking our
children to war, it is threatening the lives
of Iraqi children as well. I am protective
of my daughter, and look out for her - imagine
if the tables were turned, if we were Iraqis?
How tightly would we hold our children then?
All children are innocent (that's right,
Bill Bennett), and all children's lives
are precious, Iraqi children and American
children. I protest this war for our children.
I hope to see you on the
Oshkosh sidewalks Friday at 5.

Lake Winnebago Green
Party supports Oshkosh Peace Rally
The Lake Winnebago Green
Party endorses the Oshkosh Peace Rally this
Friday October 7th at the Opera Peace Park
and encourages all who oppose the War in
Iraq to come together with one voice to
speak out for peace. The Winnebago Peace
and Justice Center has been speaking out
against the War in Iraq for three years,
and the Lake Winnebago Green Party has stood
with the WPJC the entire time.
Over 1,940 American soldiers
have now died in Iraq, and over 25,000 Iraqi
civilians have lost their lives in a war
based on lies and false information. Since
the invasion of Iraq, global terrorism has
been increasing, and violence in the Middle
East in the last year has been rising at
an alarming rate. The United States military
presence in Iraq is making the situation
worse, not better. Only by withdrawing from
Iraq and working with the world community
to establish peace and civility in the Middle
East will we see an end to the spiral of
violence.
The Lake Winnebago Green
Party opposes the War on Iraq and stands
with the people of Winnebago County speaking
out against the war. For these same reasons
we strongly encourage everyone to sign the
petitions to put the non-binding referendum
on the City of Oshkosh spring ballot asking:
"Should the United States begin an
immediate withdrawal of troops from Iraq,
beginning with the National Guard and Reserves?"
It is time for the people
of Oshkosh to stand together for peace and
speak out against this war.
Event:
Peace Rally
Opera Peace Park, Downtown Oshkosh
Friday October 7, 5 p.m.

Babblemur's
"Not So Funny's"
(By the way, just in case anyone
gets the wrong idea - these cartoons are based
on the racist comments made by so-called morality
expert Bill Bennett on his own radio program.
This website believes Bill Bennett is obviously
a racist and first class asshat.)

Doyle
learns cost of dealing with Georgia-Pacific; GP to lay
off hundreds
in Green Bay (Big Money
Blog)
"Papermaking giant Georgia-Pacific
announced plans October 4 to lay off hundreds of its
Green Bay plant employees almost a year to the day after
it was handed a forgivable $500,000 state loan by Governor
Jim Doyle to help retrain the plants employees."
AxleTech
plays Oshkosh off other cites, jobs at stake
(Oshkosh Northwestern)
"This tactic by AxleTech of negotiating
a possible relocation to cities near Oshkosh insults
our communitys sense of fair play."

Winona LaDuke in Oshkosh for lecture
and banquet
Winona LaDuke will be in Oshkosh Thursday
October 6th as part of UW Oshkosh's Earth Charter. She
will be speaking at the Foundation Center at 4:30, followed
by a $15 sustainable food banquet at 6:30. There are
still tickets to the banquet available.
Winona LaDuke was the 2000 Vice Presidential
Candidate on the Green Party ticket. She is a precious
commodity in America: an advocate for women's rights,
native american rights, and sustainable agriculture.
Don't miss this event.
AxleTech holds Oshkosh
jobs for ransom
AxleTech
says it is a 50-50 odds as to whether they stay in Oshkosh
or not (Oshkosh Northwestern)
Whatever we get from the sale
of our property here plus any incentives has to cover
our costs to move into a new building, Burns said.
Our response (to Chamcos offer) is that
were still not there, the math doesnt work.
Were doing further analysis to see if the math
can work.
Babblemur would like to add that we
would like the City of Oshkosh to pay for our family
to move into a new building as well and defer our property
taxes for at least five years, or we just might (50-50
odds) move to Fond du Lac as well.
Babblemur would also like to note that
this is just the latest potential job losses in a LARGE
SERIES of Oshkosh and Fox River Valley layoffs and threats
of layoffs.
Can anyone say "New Deal - Public
Works Program" without sounding like a Socialist?
I will.
