Oshkosh Holiday
Season Fever:
Rieckman v. Hentz, Rieckman
v. Roesseler, Bloechl v. Hintz, Brooks v. Owens,
Tower v. Underheim?
Oshkosh, WI - Oshkosh is getting
Winter Fever, which means speculation about next
year is on the rise. As Stew Rieckman points out,
the Internet Media isn't beholden to the standards
of Print Media, so I can say what many are already
saying privately amongst themselves.
- Rieckman v. Hentz Stew
Rieckman, Executive Editor of the Oshkosh
Northwestern, wrote in his Sunday
column about his recent experience on
Eye on Oshkosh with Cheryl Hentz and Tony
Palmeri, two individuals he has ripped time
and time again, as he admits. Stew has entered
the fearsome blogosphere with his "Everyday
Editor" Blog.
- Rieckman v. Roesseler &
Underheim For all the hype between Rieckman
and Palmeri they seem to have two things in
common: 1. People tend to either love 'em or
hate 'em; and 2. they both think Oshkosh state
assemblyman Gregg Underheim and state senator
Carol Roesseler are failing to represent Oshkosh.
Rieckman got my attention when he wrote this
column calling Carol and Gregg out.
- Bloechl v. Hintz Related,
the big news scoop is at TonyPalmeri.com,
who reports that former Mayor Melanie Bloechl
may run for the 54th Assembly seat as a Democrat,
pitting her against 2004 candidate Gordon Hintz
in a Democratic Primary. Bloechl challenged
Underheim in 2000 as a Republican, but then
again 2004 Democratic candidate LuAnn Bird in
the 53rd used to be a Republican as well, so
go figure. No one ever said that the Democrats
and Republicans were that different anyway,
right?
- Brooks v. Owens Speaking
of the 53rd, the sleepy Republican 'powerhouse'
Carol Owens might get a 'wake up' call herself
in the primaries. Rumor has it that Winnebago
Co. Sheriff Mike Brooks might challenge her
for the staunch Republican seat. I can't remember
where I heard that, so don't tell anyone. Any
Democrats up for the challenge next year? Any
Greens?
- Wisconsin 54th Assembly
Back to the 54th, has Underheim found another
job yet? Since winning with less than 50% of
the vote last year, Underheim first publically
applied for the job of Superinendent of Education,
held by Elizabeth Burmeister, and lost. Is he
looking for a job in the private sector now?
Underheim should be facing a challenge in the
Republican primary, given the two major parties
penchant for shooting wounded horses. Is Frank
Tower up for the job? And what about Green Party
Palmeri? Tony says he is not running for the
54th in 2006, but will the local Green Party
capitalize on his incredibly strong third party
showing of 9% of the vote? The 'word on the
street' is that the Greens have spoken to several
women about challenging the 54th, but will Melanie
Bloechl (rhymes with Poeschl) nip that search
for female representation in the bud?
- As for the municipal elections
in April, all I will ask at this point is: will
the Oshkosh City Council put the "Iraq
War Referendum" question on the Spring
Ballot or not?

Wisconsin Green Party officially
endorses Rae Vogeler for U.S. Senate
Vogeler challenges
Democrat War Millionare Herb Kohl
At the Fall Gathering
of the Wisconsin Green Party in Milwaukee this last
weekend the general membership officially endorsed
Rae Vogeler for U.S. Senate in 2006.

Rae Vogeler is the perfect
candidate to challenge Herb Kohl. Kohl is the second
richest man in the Senate, Rae Vogeler is a working
Wisconsin mother. Kohl has voted for the war every
chance he has had. Rae Vogeler co-founded the Madison
Area Peace Coalition weeks after September 11, 2001.
Kohl voted for the Energy Bill that gave the millions
in tax breaks to the oil industry, which turned the
largest quarterly profits ever. Kohl voted for the
Bankruptsy Bill that secured the credit card companies
and financial institutions by making it difficult
for the poor and middle class to file for bankruptsy.
Kohl votes for the wealthy and the privileged. On
the other hand, Rae Vogeler knows what its like to
have to work for a living. Rae knows what it is like
to not have health insurance, to have a spouse get
laid off.

Tax cuts for the
rich? Kohl!
Tax the rich? Vogeler!

How much faith does the Wisconsin Green
Party have in Rae Vogeler's candidacy? For one, Greens
across the state are pitching in $10 dollars a month
each to help her pay for child care while she is campaigning!
Rae is a working mother, her children are 8 and 13.
She intends to visit every county and campaign across
the state between now and November 2006. She knows how
critical this race is, as she is the only alternative
to a pro-war politician that Wisconsin is going to have
on the ballot in 06. The economy is weak, and Republicans
may very well save their money on this race, putting
Vogeler head to head with the multi-millionare conservative
Democrat. While Herb Kohl is paying someone to make
his next campaign commercial, Greens are going to help
Rae pay for daycare while she hits the road to speak
with the people of Wisconsin about our problems,
not Kohl's.
Rae Vogeler has been a truck driver,
a factory worker, a nurses aide and a waitress. She
is about to turn 50, and is a freelance technical writer
and a full time mother and activist. She has been an
activist for women's rights and reproductive rights
for 30 years. She has been an activist for environmental
issues since working with the Milwaukee Greens in the
1980s and 90s. She has been a peace activist forever.
Wisconsin Progressives like Rae Vogeler.
The "Progressive
Democrats of Wisconsin" are prepared to
endorse the Green Party's Rae Vogeler: "PDW will
endorse alternative progressive and anti-war candidate
Rae Vogeler (G) in opposing Sen. Herb Kohl in his 2006
Congressional race until he reverses his support for
an illegal and immoral war on Iraq and supports progressive
values." Rae Vogeler is the GREEN and the PROGRESSIVE
candidate for the US Senate in 2006.
See VOTE
RAE for more information about the Rae Vogeler
Campaign.

Washington
Post calls out Bush: "Mr. President, it won't work
this time."
With a Wall Street Journal/NBC News
Poll finding 57 percent of Americans agreeing that George
W. Bush "deliberately misled people to make the
case for war with Iraq," the president clearly
needs to tend to his credibility problems. But his partisan
attacks on the administration's critics, in a Veterans
Day speech last week and in Alaska yesterday, will only
add to his troubles.
